Festival and traditional music experiences
In Aomori Prefecture, many festivals such as Aomori Nebuta are held, and there are the facilities where visitors can experience the festivals and its music of hayashi or drums. Also there are places where offer live music of Tsugaru-jamisen, a local traditional instrument of Aomori’s Tsugaru region, or where visitors can experience the performance.
The Nebuta House Wa Rasse
It is the facility where you can know and experience about Aomori Nebuta Festival through the seasons. Hands-on craft experience of Nebuta mask is available here. Also a lesson to learn how to wear the costume of haneto, who participate and warm up the festival parade, is offered.
Nebuta Rasseland
From every spring through summer, 22 of tents, where the gigantic floats for Aomori Nebuta Festival are made and kept, will stand in line at Rasseland. Guides that explain about origin or structure of Nebuta, while looking around the tents are available for free.
Tsugaruhan Neputa-no-Mura
It is a facility where you can feel the Hirosaki Neputa Festival through all seasons and experience hands-on craft of Tsugaru Nuri Lacquerware or Tsugaru Kite painting.
Tachineputa-no-Yakata
It is a facility where you can feel the Goshogawara Tachineputa Festival through all seasons and also experience to put papers or color on actual Tachineputa float and hands-on crafts such as lantern or Kingyo (goldfish) neputa.
Tsugaru-jamisen Hall
Visitors can enjoy live performance of Tsugaru-jamisen up close.
Aomori Tourist Information Center, ASPAM
Visitors can experience Tsugaru-jamisen or festival’s music of hayashi or drums for Aomori Nebuta at ASPAM.
Tsugaru Sukoppu-jamisen
Sukoppu-jamisen is a performance playing like jamisen using an iron shovel for farming or snow shoveling and a bottle opener. World championship of Sukoppu-jamisen is held with many performers.
Local crafts and cultural experiences
Aomori has various kinds of traditional crafts and facilities to experience being one-day artisan. Instructors will teach kindly, so don’t worry even if you are beginner. Also there are services to enjoy Japanese culture.

Visitors can enjoy hands-on crafts of Tsugaru lacqureware, kingyo neputa, kokeshi doll and so on.

Aizome (Indigo Dye)
In Edo Period, more than 100 Aizome makers had been in Hirosaki, and Aizome was representative product of Tsugaru region once. Nowadays this Aizome is drawing attention as “Aomori Ai” and sent to an exhibition in New York.
Cherry Blossom Viewing Picnic without Hassl
Tebura-de-Kanoukai is a service for tourists to enjoy cherry blossoms in Hirosaki, which is well known as the Japan’s best. For viewing cherry blossoms, don’t bother yourself about preparing foods nor finding spots, just enjoy blossom in Japanese style with locals.

Jifubuki Experience
“Jifubuki” is a natural phenomenon, which is a deep mass of snow formed like fubuki (blizzard) by the strong wind. For locals it is a phenomenon in sever winter, however for tourists who live in less snow area it gives precious and unique memory.
Fruit Picking
Apples, the number one product in Japan, and other various fruits are cultivated in Aomori Prefecture and fruit picking is offered in season for harvesting everywhere.
Fukaura Yuki-ninjin Picking
Fukaura Yuki-ninjin, which is carrots of almost same sweet tastes with fruits, is on season between December and March in Fukaura Town, and Yuki-ninjin picking is available for visitors.
Minpaku
Some cities, towns and villages in Aomori Prefecture offer Minpaku that visitors stay at farmer’s house and experience farm work.
Cycling
In Aomori Prefecture, surrounded by the grand nature such as three seas, Shirakami-Sanchi and Lake Towada, there are local culture and histories by area, and it is recommended to travel by bicycle to find those charms.
Yukikaki Kentei (snow-shoveling certifying test)
As a snow region, Aomori’s locals are suffered from snow shoveling through winter, however in another way, it is possible to say that snow shoveling can be muscle training. To enjoy snow shoveling, an event called Yukikaki Kentei is held.
Fishing Boat Tour
It is a boat tour that passenger can enjoy the view of the World Heritage Site, Shirakami-Sanchi on the recreational fishing boat. Also tourists can observe the large fixed-net fishing on board.
Koke Watching and Koke-dama Making
One of the characters of nature in Oirase Stream is cryptogams plant such as “koke (moss)”. As new attraction of Oirase Stream, visitors can experience of koke watching or hands-on craft of koke-dama (moss ball).
Trekking
Aomori Prefecture has various trekking courses such as the World Heritage Site, Shirakami-Sanchi or Hakkoda Mountains known for juhyo (rime on a tree).
