Tsugaru Sukoppu-Jamisen is a performance using an iron-made sukoppu (shovel) that is used for farming or snow shoveling and a bottle opener as a bachi (pick for string instruments), and playing like a percussion with music or shamisen sounds.
Tsugaru Sukoppu-Jamisen Kaikan
Tsugaru Sukoppu-Jamisen Kaikan is a facility where visitors can enjoy the performance of sukoppu-jamisen or experience it, and also various rare shovels are on display.
The head of performance, Byoubuzan Tateoka, a director of facility, create sukoppu-jamisen as an entertainment for party in 1985. It is friendly performance that anybody can play and enjoy easily, and in December, “World Championship for Sukoppu-jamisen” is held yearly. Nowadays, it is getting to be known all over Japan not only in Tsugaru.
