One of the reasons why the morning market attracts people is that you can buy local things at a reasonable price. For the upcoming season, we recommend the Tatehana Wharf Morning Market held in Hachinohe City, Aomori Prefecture. The morning market runs on Sunday from mid-March to the end of December and is one of the biggest in Japan. Stretching 800 meters, about 300 stalls line along the wharf and more than 10,000 people of local and tourists visit there each week.
The market has fresh local seafood, veggies, and fruits, along with the foods that you can take out and eat while walking through the market. Since there are coffee shops, bakeries, shop of Hachinohe’s local foods, and many others such as kushiyaki (skewer grilling) and karaage (deep-fried chicken), you will find many varieties of breakfast items. There are also the stores of handmade furniture and accessories; furthermore, sewing machine and hardware.
The market is set up at colossal area housing very many different stores. Therefore it is recommended to visit there for strolling with eating or having breakfast.
The market rises from dawn and gets crowded around 7:00 am.
There will be a long line in front of the popular stores, and some of them will be sold out around 5 or 6:00 am. So you should get up and head over the morning market in the early morning.
When you want to get there as soon as it opens, you’d better make a reservation for a taxi to take. If you don’t mind to visit around six in the morning, you can take a Sunday Morning Market Loop Bus “Isaba-go” from the city center of Hachinohe or walk from JR Hachinohe Line Mutsuminato Station.
