Japanese sweet corn is called “Kimi” in the Tsugaru dialect, and “Dake” is the name of the district at the foot of Mt. Iwaki. In short, Dake Kimi is a corn which is cultivated and harvested at Dake district.
The Dake-Kimi is sweeter than other corns because the farmer harvests it in the early morning, thus, the sugar stored in the corn at night stays in it. In addition, the farmers directly sell the corn after they harvest it. These factors are the key of it’s deliciousness.
Dake-Kimi stalls started to sell the corn since mid- August. Shibata Farm is currently selling the corn in ASPAM. The best time for “Dake Kimi” will be from mid September until the end of September. Please enjoy eating Aomori’s delicious sweet corn.
